The Physics of Baseball discussed
The 2014 Benson Memorial Lecture was held on March 19, 2014 with Alan M. Nathan of the University of Illinois speaking on "The Physics of Baseball: You Can Observe A Lot By Watching." With the use of photos from high speed cameras, Dr. Nathan discussed the science behind events during game play and the unexpected outcomes that sometimes result.
 
Alternative Spring Break
The Miami Chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) took students to Chicago on March 22-25 for an alternative Spring Break trip. The students met with professionals in the STEM fields and spent a day touring the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, home to 2,500 researchers from 34 countries. The students hope this trip will mark the start of an annual tradition.
